Gold Dust Cottage

A SMALL HOUSE · A WHOLE NEW CHAPTER

There is still
gold here.

Six of us. One small house.
Starting over out loud.

Pacific Northwest light, a very good coffee, a thousand little rituals. Making a life that feels like ours.

Come on in
Michelle’s cottage living room: a deep corduroy sofa, green stools and a warm wood fireplace
A little softer. A little more ours.

WELCOME TO THE COTTAGE

A smaller home.
A life with room to breathe.

Gold Dust Cottage is my home-and-life journal: downsizing, starting again, and making ordinary days feel delicious. There are crystals on the shelves, coffee in the kitchen, and usually a pet where a pet should not be.

Some days we reset the room. Some days we find one clean mug. Both belong here.

FIELD NOTES FROM HOME

The good in the everyday.

01 / THE COTTAGE

Less house.
More feeling.

I’m making room for what I want to live with: deep green, warm wood, soft things, and objects with a story. The small-house question is simple: does this make our life feel better?

A room can be useful and a little enchanted. My favorite ones are.

02 / SMALL RITUALSA softly styled close-up of my crystal pyramid on its wooden shelf

One beautiful thing
is a beginning.

Open the curtains. Clear a corner. Make the coffee you actually want. A reset doesn’t have to take the whole day to change its direction.

Make a little magic together ↗
03 / THE SWEET SIX

Four humans.
Two tiny supervisors.

Our family-and-pets chapter: two adults, two kids, Thor the dog, and Mochi the cat. The warmth, the interruptions, the small ridiculous moments that make a house ours.

The Sweet Six is a series inside the Cottage. This is our setting, not a performance of a perfect family.

A distant, softly imagined family moment with Michelle and her children barefoot on a golden beach

YOUR HOST · MICHELLE JAHNKE

Still a
Gold Dust Woman.

I’m Michelle. I live in Vancouver with Joel, our two children, Thor and Mochi. We moved into a smaller house, and I’ve been finding out how much life we can fit into it.

Our home brings together my Nigerian roots, Joel’s Swedish heritage and whatever makes us feel good here: warm wood, soft blankets, coffee and a little magic. I share the small-space ideas that work for us, with the laundry still very much in the picture.

Come in. There’s room for you, too.

Michelle

Another little door?

One Gold Dust woman. A few very good rabbit holes.
