A five-minute landing spot.
A small room does a lot of jobs. The place beside the door becomes a mail shelf, a school station and somewhere to leave the thing in your hand. Give that one spot five minutes.
- Choose the smallest useful surface. One end of the counter or one shelf is enough.
- Return three things. Put away the obvious items before deciding what to organize.
- Keep the daily essentials together. Keys, tomorrow’s school note and what you need to take out can share a tray you already own.
- Leave some empty space. A clear place is useful on its own. It does not need a new purchase.
- Stop. You made the next departure easier. The rest of the room can wait.
At the Cottage, I’m collecting the small-space habits that earn their keep. This one starts with the next time you walk through the door.
